Born in 1952, I am at the tail end of the Baby Boom. However, I am old enough to remember “Never trust anyone over 30.” We could not imagine ever being thirty years old much less retirement age. For many of us the words of my late friend Jim Kellogg ring true. He said “If I had known I was going to live this long, I’d have taken better care of myself.”

Walking Meditation Workshop
Time: 8:30 – 10:30am
This easy-to-learn eight set of Walking Meditation allows all joints to loosen up and improves balance and coordination. Ch’i (life-force energy) starts to flow through the body’s channels while blood surges through veins and arteries and brings a state of tranquility.
T’ai Chi Basics Workshop
Time: 10:45 – 12:45pm
14-step T’ai Chi is the foundation for the Cheng-Ming T’ai Chi long form. Hiromi will explain the basic stance, footwork, and a connection to the core which all T’ai Chi practitioners revisit. For beginners, we will learn the basic stance and movements. For experienced students, we will deepen our practice by focusing on several T’ai Chi principles. After this workshop, you will feel energized and relaxed.
Both beginner and intermediate students are welcome!

If you or someone you know is curious about T’ai Chi and its calming influences and positive effects on health, please join us on Saturday, September 21st at 2pm!
We will demonstrate some of the forms that we teach and discuss how T’ai Chi works to strengthen and integrate the mind and body from 2 to 3pm. You will have the opportunity to try several movements and feel T’ai Chi’s effects for yourself.
Afterwards, stick around for snacks and opportunities to ask questions of any of the current students.
Parking: You may park in the SNL Financial parking lot across from the entrance to the dojo on Seventh Street. You may also park in the parking deck next to the police station on East Market Street. Please bring your parking deck ticket to the dojo — we can validate it for two hours.
My name is Hiromi Johnson. I am a founder and director of Hiromi T’ai Chi, a non-profit educational organization teaching the art and health benefits of T’ai Chi in Charlottesville community.
I am originally from Tokyo, Japan. My husband and I moved to Charlottesville 15 years ago. In Japan, we celebrate “Respect the Elderly” on the third Monday in September. It is a holiday to honor the elderly citizens. The origin of this national holiday traces back to September 15, 1947.
I would like to bring this tradition to honor the senior citizens. Hiromi T’ai Chi will hold the “Respect the Elderly” Week from September 9 (Mon) to 15 (Sun). Our instructors and I would like to visit centers and organizations to give a 30 – 45 minute T’ai Chi presentation for free on a first come, first served basis. Please choose your preferred date and time from the attached schedule chart.
T’ai Chi is proven to prevent falls in elderly and people in wheelchairs can practice, too.
